Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have purchased a stake in a second football team.

The two Hollywood actors have transformed Wrexham since buying the club in 2020, which brought the Welsh outfit massive interest from across the pond.

Since then, the Dragons have earned back-to-back promotions and will play next season in League One.

The grand success of Wrexham has persuaded Reynolds and McElhenney to dip their toes in football club business once more.

According to Variety, the duo have bought a stake in Mexican side Club Necaxa, who are already familiar with celebrity investment.

The club is 50 per cent owned by NX Football USA, which boasts investors such as actress Eva Longoria, ex-Arsenal player Mesut Ozil, NFL star Odel Beckham Jr, and model Kate Upton.

Longoria is on the board of directors at Club Necaxa and the actress is thought to have played a key role in bringing Reynolds and McElhenney into the ownership group.

It has been claimed NX Football USA also agreed to buy a five per cent stake in Wrexham as part of a separate deal, adding more celebrity backing to the EFL side.

Reynolds and McElhenney will work alongside Longoria, as well as investors Al Tylis and Sam Porter, to enhance the club's reputation much like they have done in Wrexham.

There has been a spike in football-based content across the globe, including the award-winning docuseries Welcome to Wrexham which turned the club into a worldwide phenomenon.

Through their investment firm R.R. McReynolds Company, which owns Wrexham, the two actors bought a stake in Club Necaxa.

However, while they are both relatively hands-on at Wrexham, it is unclear what their role in Mexico will be.

But there is the chance that Club Necaxa will also be central to another docuseries.

Welcome to Wrexham is set to premiere its third season on May 2, detailing their rise to becoming an EFL side having been a side in financial trouble before the Hollywood actors arrived.

The series has won five Emmy Awards and has seen the Wrexham players become mini-celebrities in their own right, with one even making a cameo appearance in Reynolds' latest film Deadpool 3.

The Racecourse Ground outfit will also jet off to the United States for a pre-season tour just like they did last year.

They will face Bournemouth, Chelsea and Vancouver Whitecaps while in the States.
