Barnsley accept bid for in-demand defender

Barnsley have accepted a £1m bid plus add-ons from Bournemouth for Mason Holgate, according to the Daily Mail.

The young defender is being chased by a number of clubs, including Aston Villa, Everton and Man United. However, it’s Premier League new-boys Bournemouth who are now in pole position to sign him, after having a bid accepted.

The 18-year old really broke onto the scene in 2014/15, featuring 22 times and scoring one goal for the Tykes. The Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on him in recent weeks and the youngster has even trained with the club. At one point it seemed as if a deal was done but he could now be set to join fellow Prem side Bournemouth instead.

A deal has been agreed and Holgate – who can play as both a right-back and as a centre-back – will now be allowed to speak to the Cherries about a potential move to Dean Court.
