Liverpool will kick off the new Premier League campaign in August when newly promoted Norwich City visit Anfield in what Jurgen Klopp will hope marks the beginning of the end of the club’s 29-year wait to reclaim the title.

Sky Sports will screen the season’s curtain raiser on Friday August 9, with Manchester City beginning the defence of their crown the next day when they travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United.

The Premier League on Thursday announced their fixtures for the 2019/2020, which is just 56 days away, and the stand-out match of the opening weekend is Chelsea’s trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Chelsea may have a new manager in place by then with Maurizio Sarri bound for Juventus and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will doubtless be relieved the West London club can no longer call upon Eden Hazard as the United manager bids to hit the ground running after a troubled last campaign.

Although City host Tottenham Hotspur in their second league game, Pep Guardiola must be privately delighted with the way the fixtures have fallen. The champions face a favourable run of fixtures before going to Liverpool on November 9 and, similarly, an inviting run in after the visit of Klopp’s side to the Etihad Stadium on April 4.

Their hopes of becoming only the second team in Premier League history to win three successive titles are likely to be heavily influenced by the outcome of a tough run of games over a three-week period in February and March, when they play Arsenal, United and Chelsea before the international break, after which they have that game against Liverpool.

Liverpool, by contrast, will have played Arsenal, Chelsea, United and Spurs by the time City come to Anfield in November. Two of Liverpool’s final three league games are against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Like Norwich, Aston Villa, another promoted side, also face a tough opener, away to Tottenham. Sheffield United’s return to the Premier League after a 12-year absence commences at Bournemouth.

Of the 380 games across the season, 200 will be broadcast live and of particular intrigue will be the two full rounds of matches in December that will be shown by Amazon as they begin their three-year deal.

As well as showing all 10 fixtures between December 3-5, which includes the Merseyside derby at Anfield and United against Spurs at Old Trafford, Amazon have been given the rights to the Boxing Day and December 27 fixtures - with those 20 matches coming at a reputed cost of £90 million to the streaming giant.

Those Christmas matches include Newcastle’s trip to Old Trafford and Leicester City against Liverpool at the King Power Stadium.

BT Sport will be broadcasting a total of 52 matches - 32 of them kicking off at 12.30pm on Saturday - while Sky Sports’ £3.8 billion right package entitles them to 128 matches - the equivalent of £9.3 million per match - and the “first picks” of games.

Chelsea

The big question remains who will be in charge of Chelsea when they open up with a hard trip to Old Trafford on the opening weekend? They face a potential difficult test in Feburary when they host United in the return fixture (Feb 8) before welcoming Tottenham (Feb 22).

Crystal Palace

Palace open up against Everton, but it's the final run of fixtures which could give fans reason for concern. Roy Hodgson's men begin their run of tough clashes by hosting Chelsea on April 18 and Manchester United on May 2 followed by a trip to Molineux on May 9. The season is wrapped up with the visit of Tottenham.

Everton

December 4 (a) and March 14 (h) are the two Merseyside derby fixtures. In fact, the Christmas period could present Marco Silva's men with plenty of headaches. The trip to Anfield is the first of four tough fixtures which includes Chelsea at home (Dec 7), Man Utd away (Dec 14) and Arsenal at home (Dec 21).

Leicester City

Another tough close to the season for Brendan Rodgers' men as travel to Tottenham in their penultimate fixture before hosting Manchester United at the King Power Stadium. A Boxing Day clash with Rodgers' former team Liverpool also awaits.

Liverpool

Again, Dec 4 and March 14 will be marked in fans' diaries for the Merseyside derbies but clashes with Manchester United on Oct 19 (a) and Jan 18 (h) will be much anticipated. Jurgen Klopp's men finish up against former manager Rafa Benitez and his Newcastle outfit.

Manchester City

The reigning champions begin their title defence away to West Ham, before an early visit from Tottenham the following weekend. Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men face Chelsea on the opening Sunday before a trip to Molineux to take on Wolves. A New Year’s Day trip to Arsenal could provide some entertainment, before United wrap up their campaign away to Leicester on May 17.

Newcastle United

A Sunday-afternoon opener against Arsenal at St James’ Park is followed by a trip to newly-promoted Norwich. Newcastle have a daunting end to their 2019/20 campaign, though: they must play Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool in the final month.

Norwich City

Daniel Farke’s side will have a Premier League baptism of fire: they face Liverpool at Anfield on the opening Friday night, before Chelsea and Manchester City visit Carrow Road before mid-September. If the Canaries end up in a relegation battle, their run-in looks ominous: they travel to Stamford Bridge and the Etihad in May.

Sheffield United

An opening-day trip down to Bournemouth is an ideal start for the newly-promoted Sheffield United, but meetings with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal will be a tricky way to welcome in the new year. Chris Wilder’s side will travel to Southampton on the final day.

Southampton

An opening-day visit to Burnley will set the Southampton pulses racing, before a visit from European champions Liverpool on August 17. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side complete their campaign against Sheffield United at St Mary’s.

Tottenham Hotspur

The new Tottenham stadium sees in its first full Premier League campaign with a visit from Aston Villa on the evening of the opening day, before trips to Manchester City and Arsenal before the end of August. A pre-Christmas cracker against Chelsea is one for the calendar, before Mauricio Pochettino’s side finish their campaign against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Watford

A season opener against Brighton at Vicarage Road is followed by a trip to Everton. Javi Gracia’s men will conclude their campaign away to Arsenal at the Emirates.

West Ham United

A Saturday lunchtime opener against the champions Manchester City is not the ideal start, before Manuel Pellegrini takes his side to Brighton and Watford in the early weeks of the season. On the final day, there could be claret everywhere as West Ham welcome Aston Villa to the London Stadium.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Nuno Espirito Santo takes his exciting Wolves side to Leicester on day one, before welcoming Manchester United to Molineux. A trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea awaits on the final day of the season.
