Crystal Palace ended a run of five Premier League games without a win by beating Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor.

Wilfried Zaha put Palace ahead in first-half stoppage time, striking the ball through Nick Pope at his near post before substitute Jeffrey Schlupp capitalised on a mistake by Ben Mee in the 78th minute to secure all three points for the visitors.

Victory sees Roy Hodgson's side move up to 10th in the table, level on 18 points with Burnley, who drop down to eighth.

How Palace got back to winning ways

Chances were few and far between in the opening stages of what was a tight encounter.

Luka Milivojevic curled an early free-kick just over the crossbar after Zaha had been fouled by James Tarkowski, while Jack Cork shot wide and Dwight McNeil forced Vicente Guaita into action at the other end.

Burnley were then dealt a blow in the 36th minute when Charlie Taylor had to be replaced by Erik Pieters after picking up an injury.

Two minutes later, Palace thought they had scored through Jordan Ayew, but the goal was correctly ruled out by both the linesman and VAR for offside against Patrick van Aanholt in the build-up.

Palace finished the half the stronger and they eventually got their reward in injury-time when Zaha drove at the retreating Phil Bardsley and beat Pope with Palace's first shot on target in the game.

Burnley started the second half with much more purpose, Pieters firing a fierce shot into the side-netting after his initial effort was blocked.

Sean Dyche's side should have levelled things up in the 58th minute when Cheikhou Kouyate's misplaced header fell to Chris Wood, who was clean through on goal, but the striker miscued his effort and the ball sailed high over the crossbar.

    Team news

Danny Drinkwater was involved in a Burnley Premier League squad for just the second time for the visit of Crystal Palace. The midfielder had to make do with a place on the bench, though, with Jeff Hendrick moved into the centre in place of the suspended Ashley Westwood and Robbie Brady coming in out wide.

Palace were without defensive duo Joel Ward and Gary Cahill so Martin Kelly and Scott Dann stepped in.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure as they searched for an equaliser and Wood got his head to a corner only for James McArthur to clear off the line.

Burnley were left to rue those missed opportunities in the 78th minute when Mee sliced an attempted clearance straight to Schlupp, who shot through Pope's legs.

The Clarets had one final chance to apply some late pressure on Palace, but Guaita produced a flying save, after a cross flicked off Wood's back, to keep his clean sheet intact.

    What the managers said…

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "It was more frustrating than disappointing. I am not disappointed because I thought we played well. The frustration comes with not taking our chances. They stayed in shape and broke and we did not deal with those breaks today. Sometimes you think it was not your day, but you have to take your chances and we did not take them today."

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson: "I think the way we got the balance right between having to defend and attacking was really good. It's a very good victory, we are very satisfied with the result and the performance. We are grateful for the three points but now we need to use this feeling going forwards."

Zaha was a crucial figure in Palace's win at Turf Moor.

He struck the crucial opener in stoppage time at the end of the first half via Crystal Palace's first shot on target of the game. The Ivory Coast international then proved a real threat for the rest of the game on the counter-attack as Burnley attempted to get back into it.

Zaha has scored two goals in his last two Premier League games for Palace, as many as he managed in his previous 21.

On his performance, Hodgson said: "Zaha has been extremely good in recent games. He has not allowed players to aggravate him and that is really important. We are also getting a lot out of him defensively. He works very, very hard; it's an important factor in us winning the game."
